I've been using Ubuntu linux on Nintendo Switch for almost a week now and it truly feels like the vision microsoft trying to sell with their "windows continuum" many years ago, albeit more cumbersome (at the current state).
I can browse some stuff on handheld mode, and when i arrived at the office, drop it to the dock, and voila. I can use mouse + keyboard + 24inch monitor. Drag and drop stuff, do some gimp, or inkspace or docs stuff. Everything works seamlessly. The workspace automatically scale back to 1x, and i got 24" of space for work. USB devices, including USB HDDs works just fine (my USB HUB didn't work tho).
This simplicity of dock/undock and go back-and-forth between bigscreen and small screen also awesome in meetings. As i can simply do stuff undocked, prepare the files, opened the presentation, etc. Then dock to show it on the projector. People in developed country may think this is cumbersome, why not simply use miracast/wireless display/chrome cast to share phone's screen to projector.... but in my country, most projectors only have HDMI or DSUB. no wireless. anyway, for those that have portable switch dock, you can "screen mirror" or "screen extent" so you have two screens.
Unfortunately switch's 4GB RAM become the limiting factor. Doing some work stuff while opening reddit redesign, can quickly crash the whole system. These RAM problem can be alleviated a wee bit by enabling SWAP (in windows its known as PageFile). Thus it uses the microsd as a additional (uber-slow) memory.
or maybe its my fault for reddit-ing while at work...
anyway...
those are for work stuff. Now when i want to do some quick gaming, i just swap my microsd and im back on Nintendo Switch system and Dragon's Dogma. Or do some local multiplayer with coworkers in Mario Kart. Then swap back to ubuntu microsd and im back working. these two microsd card can be merged into one but i'm too lazy to do that and too cheap to buy one big microsd card.
