Fizycy właśnie ujrzeli materię powstającą z kolizji "prawdziwych" fotonów.

Opis znaleziska: Zespół fizyków z Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider uzyskał jak dotąd najmocniejszy dowód na tworzenie się materii z "rzeczywistego" światła. W zderzeniach jonów złota, w tzw. procesie Breita-Wheelera, ujrzeli oni pary elektronów-pozytonów powstające z fotonów. Więcej szczegółów eksperymentu w tekście.

All gamma ray photons are massless and chargeless.

The created particles, electrons and positrons, have both mass and charge.

The two twin particles traveled directly away from each other, and thus the whole momentum of the system is zero. Zero momentum in, zero out.

The two twin particles are oppositely charged, one positive, the other negative. The whole system is therefore zero charge when added up. Zero charge in, zero out.

The energy of the incoming gamma photons is transmutated into the mass of the outgoing twins. Because E = mc2

They did this in a big circular collider in Long Island at Brookhaven Labs. This is so cool. Science!
