In the USA, we recycle about 3.1 million tons of our plastics per year, out of the 35.7 million tons we throw away. Only about 8.7%. We used to send half of this to China until they banned it because they had too much plastic to deal with (see above top ten rank) and now we ship it to other places which are already drowning in plastic.
When we were shipping it to China for recycling, they dumped 55% of our plastic in open landfills or in rivers. After they banned it, we started shipping it to Indonesia and Vietnam, which proceeded to improperly dump over 80% of it.
Look at the countries where we send our plastic.
They are the same countries causing the oceanic plastics problem because of their own inability to harvest their own trash and landfill it.

@Niedobry: Artykuł jest właśnie o tym że segregacja to ściema ( ͡°͜ʖ͡°) Nie jest to szuryzm bo jest to jawne. Recykling jest nieopłacalny, więc o ile podmiot odbierający te śmieci na recykling nie jest jakąś organizacją charytatywną to, jako że nie są w stanie osiągnąć magicznie profitów, musi się ich pozbyć w inny sposób.
