Przypadkowo się wczoraj dowiedziałem, że pracowałem dla firmy, która była w najlepszym programie dokumentalnym ever.

London Aquatic Centre

If you’re as enthusiastic about sports and the upcoming 2012 London Olympics as I am, then you’ll enjoy reading a bit of information regarding the Aquatic Centre - “the flagship building of the Olympics”. This afternoon I watched the building of the megastructure on DiscoveryHD and believe me, seeing what it took to construct this massive, innovative building is truly amazing. So, here are a few facts:
Construction began in June ‘08
Designed by Zaha Hadid
Seats 17,500 people
Skeleton is made up of 3,000 tons of steel
It’s wave-like roof is made up of 11,000sqm of aluminum which is supported in 3 points like a tripod with no mid-support.
Rowecord, a structural steelwork company based in Newport, Wales was contracted to fabricate the steel. It took 50 welders to complete the job.
There are 3 swimming pools: (2) 50m swimming pools and (1) 25m diving pool
Events held: swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water polo
Just 2 weeks ago I visited the Olympic Park in Stratford. If you’re interested in going on a free, guided tour (via bus) here’s how to book.
