Przenosiny - info update:

By now you should all know that Dark Souls is officially dropping the Games for Windows Live client and is moving to the Steam Works.

For the past week now many post on /r/DarkSouls have been towards this amazing news. Many questions towards the GFWL Tokens and what not. So im making this post to get as much information as i can to you to hopefully answer all your question you have.

NOTE: Not all information has been given to the public.

1) The update it's self

So as Stated on the Bandai Namco site, in November Dark souls will be using Steam for its online connections now instead of the GFWL client. This means that (for those who bought it on steam) all Achievements/Characters/Progress will be automatically transferred to your steam profile. No work needs to be done on your part.

Those who bought the game on disk have a few steps to take before all Achievements/Characters/Progress get transferred.

NOTE: The starting period for transfer to steam will begin on November1st sometime in November

You need to get your token (which is just your product key) from the GFWL Marketplace and activate the game in steam. Open up the marketplace and click on the FULL GAMES tab on the left. Find and click on Dark Souls. Near the bottom of the page there should be a click able arrow View Game Tokens When click 2 items will be displayed. GAME ACTIVATION TOKEN AND LIVE ACCESS TOKEN. We only want the GAME ACTIVATION TOKEN. So copy what is in the box and go into your steam library Bottom left click Add a game > Activate a product on steam. Agree to the page and paste the code in the box and accept. The game should now be in your library.

The reason for all of this is so you don't need to pay for the game once it moves to steam client and so everything on your account for Dark souls is transferred to steam so nothing is lost.

2) DSFix/DSCFix/DSMFix Mods

I want to quickly touch base on the mods that help us play Dark souls. Speculation on my part not facts

DSFix: Will work 100%. Everything it does will not be disturbed or cut off from the update. The only thing i think (need confirmation) the Update will affect is the 60FPS option in DSFix.

DSCFix: Will not work. DSC soul purpose is for GFWL. To connect you and your friends faster in game without waiting for it to pool its self together. DSCFix will be one thing you need to remove after update.

DSMFix: For those like me who use controllers its no worry. (Need confirmation) I believe DSM uses some codes in GFWL but not 100% sure. If so hopefully it will be updated as soon as the update comes out.

Now some Q&A:

Q) I bought Dark Souls: Prepare to Die on steam. Should i install and play or wait for the update?

A) Yes 100% start. The update will do nothing to your play through. Remember it is just online that is going to be affected. If you bought it on a disk and ask this question, id say wait till the update before installation.

Q) Dark Souls is not listed under GFWL "All Downloads"/"Full Games" tab. WTF????

A) First, once again if you bought it on steam no need to do this at all. No codes or anything related to GFWL is needed to be done on your part. Our lord and savior Gaben has done it all for you.

Now for those on disk what Ive heard that works is uninstalling Microsoft Games for Windows Live Marketplace and Microsoft Games for Windows-Live Redistributable along with Dark souls its self. Then go to the Microsoft website and install the latest Marketplace client (it comes with Live Redistributable) and then reinstall Dark Souls. It should now be in the marketplace.

Q) Will the update finally make it easier to connect to people? I wanna kick ass and not wait an hour.

A) At this time it is unknown about how better connecting and online in general will be until the update comes.

Alright i think that's it for now. Hopefully any questions you had are answered. Anything i missed or have any questions that still need answering leave in the comments.

May you be as grossly incandescent as the sun!
