"I've got a new Chronos in the Black Friday deal, the 868MHz with the white pcb, and was also having troubles updating via wireless.
But I found the solution and think this is the right place to share as this thread was one of the first google results while looking for it.
I had to update the RF Access Point firmware with the version included with the latest Control Center (included in the "Recovery" folder). It has to be done using the Ez430 Programmer. I got the drivers for it from the IAR kickstart (under "drivers\TIUSBFET\eZ430-UART\" if you don't want to do a full installation).
Connect the RF A.P. to the Programmer as shown in the page 46 of the "eZ430-Chronos User's Guide" included with the Control Center. I managed to get a good connection without soldering the header to the RF A.P
I've then used the Eloptronic's Lite FET-Pro430 software for programming. Then it's just opening the correct version firmware, select the MSP430F5509 Microcontroller and click "AUTO PROG". Done! You can now do wireless updates."

teraz z kolei mam zagwostke jak spiąc oba dongle ze sobą. wireless access point (ten po prawej) ma 4 piny, ale nie wiadomo czy ta przelotka jest wlutowana od dołu czy góry (na tym zdjęciu na 60% od dołu). z kolei debug interface (po lewej) ma 6 pinów, z opisu wynika że pierwszy od góry
@orestlenczyk: wygląda na to, że od dołu. Myslę że też masz rację, że raczej AP nie potrzebuje wysyłać UART, więc UART RX bym zostawił wolny na programatorze
@orestlenczyk: trochę chore, że tak oczywista czynność wymaga tyle kombinowania... Nie mam przy sobie AP, więc sprawdzę potem i dam znać. Dzięki za informację.
@DOgi: nom, entry level jest koszmarny. z open hardware mam jeszcze arduino, gdzie nowy user jest od początku prowadzony za rączkę, beagle bone, już troche trudniej i trzeba pokombinować, ale przynajmniej jest jakiś tutorial i w miare sensowna grupa dyskusyjna, a w tym przypadku, mimo dokumentacji na 2000 stron czuje sie jak dziecko we mgle :D co jak co, ale opis jak przygotować sprzęt i zamrygać diodą (hello world) by sie
@piotreeek: @DOgi: działa ten sposób opisany :) ale jak sie okazuje, zeby wgrac dataloggera, trzeba najpierw wrzucic Recoveryez430chronos868MHz2_1.txt (inaczej nie pojdzie). ciekawe ile takich kaszkietow bedzie jeszcze po drodze
@orestlenczyk @piotreeek @DOgi sry że tak odkopuję po latach :D ale mam pytanie- bez flashowania dongla RF nie będzie działać ten dongiel(ten RF)? bo poinstalowalem na windzie drivery jak bozia każe (zedytowałem VID/PID w pliku inf jak bozia każe, bo by się w ogóle nie zainstalowało ;-))
no i wywala mi że "nie może uruchomić urządzenia kod 10" widzi jako urządzenie com, domyślnie chce się instalować jako hid). Więc domyślam się, że

@orestlenczyk: a czy to nie dotyczy wyłącznie access pointów sprzed 2012 roku, czy jakoś tak?

a potem juz było nieco lepiej, dopisałem sobie timer do zegarka
