Putinizacja? Orbánizacja? A może Erdoğanizacja? W którą stronę zmierza Polska? Ignacy Morawski postanowił analitycznie podejść do tematu.

Up until 2015 Poland was very close to Denmark. Now we are facing a risk of Orbanization, which means sliding in some aspects of democracy – rule of law can be undermined by Constitutional Court reform and general judicial reforms, citizens’ protection might be endangered if law on invigilation is introduced. But I don’t think that there is any risk of Erdoganization, which means eg. closures of opposition media or jailing journalists. And talking about Putinization is obviously a pure nonsense. It is like saying that Manchester United after a few bad seasons is at risk of being relegated to a lower league.

Building democracy is a long process that requires dealing with conflicts, social and political turbulences, crises and shocks. People who thought that Central European countries erased centuries of institutional backwardness relative to the West in one day, on May 1st 2004, when they joined the European Union, were clearly wrong. It is a bumpy road. We enjoyed tailwinds in the first decade after joining EU, now we face headwinds. But we will hopefully move forward.

Most of Poles are convinced that westernization is the best way for Poland. But there some who think differently and treat the West as a source of moral corruption or an economic oppression. Moreover, widespread frustration stemming from rising discrepancy between ever higher aspirations and relatively low wages makes a fertile ground for political apathy. Therefore, modernizers must confront both conservatism and apathy. It can’t be easy, but I think that absent serious international crisis, westernization project in Poland will not be derailed in the medium to long term.

Wnioski: Putinizacja, Erdoğanizacja? Nie. Orbánizacja? Prawdopodobnie.
