The Soldier Bear (Strange Stories of World War II)
A brown Syrian bear was given to a new Polish Army, setting up in the Middle east in 1942. The 22nd Artillery Supply Company of the Polish II Corps would name him ‘Wojtek’ by the soldiers and soon he would become a morale boosting mascot for the troops.
