Cipher represents what Nietzsche called 'The Last Man': a superfluous, superficial, and decadent figure who only cares about easy pleasures and refuses to take on the grand task of overcoming the Death of God. He styles himself a smart one, thinking that he has invented happiness, and only desires a little poison before sleeping (to get sweet dreams), and a big poison before dying (so to leave this place without pains). But he is wasting his existence by shunning any and all opportunity of taking full responsibility for the one life we have here on Earth.

Cipher is a wretched man, a cynical bastard who failed to take on reality. Ignorance is bliss, he says? I say he's merely striving for the lowliest of all common denominators: to avoid discomfort at all cost.
