22 years ago today, a massive earthquake with the magnitude of 7.4 struck Istanbul and neighboring cities, destroying many buildings and killing thousands of people. this incident is still considered one of the biggest natural disasters in modern turkish history. #turcja
i started learning polish yesterday and i was wondering if there are some good polish newspapers/etc which i can read in the future when i start to understand basic sentences
@tty0: I don't know if there is any newspaper not tainted with politics and you don't want to read about this, trust me ( ͡°͜ʖ͡°) Imho, best thing you can buy is "Świat Wiedzy" popular science magazine which is written really nicely and in simple manner.
there is an app called "termux" which lets you use a linux terminal on your android phone. you can even code on it, because it has a package manager which includes most of the popular programming languages.
@Klopsztanga: i came here from r/Turkey after a wykop user here posted something about ekşi sözlük. i am an ekşi sözlük reader myself so i found it interesting and came here :)
@Gigamesh: you mean good in programming/computers? i'm not a professional myself, it's just a hobby for me (for now). i started with C++ then moved onto other languages. i'd recommend python for beginners, it's really a great language.
about linux, i started using it 4-5 months ago. so i'm still relatively new to it. however i'm using my linux system everyday so it was easy for me to get used
for your attention, #tureckiwykop is under threat.
in an interview with president erdogan today, he made some statements against sözlük. as far as i know this is the first time he makes a statement against a turkish website for it to shut down. i mean, he holds the absolute power and our goverment has done similar things before (blocking access to youtube and twitter for a period of time) so
@giocarte: as people of different countries, we'll fight for our freedom of speech and will not let them silence us. governments are temporary, but as people, we are here to stay.
i hope we, as turks manage to elect a sane government after 19 years xD not very into your politics but hope you guys get rid of that PiS or smth you are dealing with
@tty0: you know it was in 2004, maybe he was really very hungry back then. Did they even have internet back then? No. So probably they didn't have enough food too.
current trends at #tureckiwykop offer and insight to turkey's ever growing refugee crisis. for those who don't know, there are about 4 million syrian refugees currently residing in turkey, and more refugees (mostly from afghanistan) are expected to come.
1. well, as far as i'm aware, EU funds turkey to keep refugees and money-hungry government is okay with refugees. but european folks do not need to worry about it that much because greece is doing a good job keeping the refugees away, unlike us.
2. most of turks are frustrated because of the uncontrolled and massive immigration. not to mention refugees are literally everywhere, beaches etc. there are
@Piastan: that seems like a reasonable idea, however birth rate of syrians are very high (1.9 for turks whereas 5 for syrians) and they are huge in numbers. also syrians make up the majority on some districts. considering these factors make assimilation a harder process.
turkish presidency of religious affairs spends 13 billion TL (roughly 1.4 billion $) in 7 months. #tureckiwykop reports turkish youth grows more angry at diyanet
prezydentura spraw religijnych nie mogła wystarczyć na budżet 13 mld tl na 2021 r. diyanet zażądał zwiększenia jego dodatku, mówiąc „abyśmy mogli w pełni wykonywać nasze obowiązki prawne”
this was the first ever entry to be written on our beloved #tureckiwykop . it was written by ssg, the programmer and creator of the sözlük, on 16th of Feb 1999, 3:26 AM.
it seems like I cannot upload any image rn, wykop is throwing errors. i've tried several different images, in PNG and JPEG, restarted the browser after disabling tracking protection, tried on mobile, tried with VPN... it's no use.
opening up developer console reveals even more errors. there are error messages left and right xd. inspecting the network tab, an http request can be seen with the response "bad file" (although nothing is
Amerykański prom kosmiczny wystrzelony z Florydy w 1982 roku potrzebował do działania około 400 tys. linijek kodu. Genom myszy zawiera w sobie około 120 milionów linijek kodu. Ludzki? Aż 3 miliardy.
i assumed debian was on that list, i wasn't wrong haha. however in these kind of lists, the technique used for counting lines matter a lot, and oftentimes comparing projects by lines of code is not the best thing to do.
but it gives you an idea of how big the project is, so there is that

Hello Polish friends, I've stumbled upon this interesting website after randomly finding it at a Turkish subreddit. The interesting thing about this website is that it is extremely similar to the Turkish website Ekşi Sözlük. I've read what you guys have...
the rest of the writing is at at that link by the way. just want to make sure you don't miss it. also i am not sure why but am getting downvoted for spam. i'm a newbie here so you can warn me on DM if I did something wrong - much appreciated!
