We all grow up hearing stories from our grandmother or grandmother. These stories sometimes contained tales of giant characters, sometimes stories of Sheikh Saadi and sometimes interesting incidents from his own childhood. A story must have been told by every grandmother who spent her childhood in Pakistan in the fifties and sixties; And that is that water did not come in the house as the tap was opened, but water was filled from the official tap in the street and brought to the house for use. At the end of this story, there was an exhortation to value water and to forbid its waste.
Unfortunately, we did not listen to this advice and as a result we are suffering from seven water shortage today. According to the Pakistan Council of Research on Water Resources, if proper measures are not taken, our dear green country will suffer from family. The responsibility for this dire situation lies with climate change and government incompetence as well as the individual carelessness of all of us.
Due to this uncertainty situation where steps are being taken at the government level to increase water storage and save it, it is the duty of all of us individually to play our part to end the current crisis. Specially houseswives are not exercised from this important responsibility who not only need water for their household work but also have to manage water for the needs of the household members.
Water can be saved in various ways in the day-to-day affairs of the house, of which the following are some useful methods:
1. Do not leave the water tap open
So this is very old advice, but it is not heeded. Unnecessary water has been spilled while washing dishes, washing clothes or mopping the floor. When applying soap or washing powder, the faucet is often left open, which wastes a lot of water. Housewives find it boysome to open and close the faucet frequently so they leave the faucet open while working. This process further increases water scarcity so taps should not be left open unnecessarily. Similarly, do not use an open pipe while watering the plants, but it will be better if water is given through an old-fashioned shower.
2. Reuse used water
Excessive use of urea fertilizers and pesticides in crops leaves their effects on vegetables and fruits. Fruits and vegetables should be worn carefully to eliminate these effects. But due to the growing shortage of water in the country, it would be better if a tub is kept under the tap to collect the water while washing the vegetables or fruits. Then this used water should be put in the plants or used to wash the floor. Rainwater can also be collected and used to water plants.
3. Shower duration should be shortened
Women tend to take longer showers due to their longer hair. But if an effort is made, water can be saved by reducing this period. According to the UN global standards, the correct duration of taking a shower is 7 to 10 minutes, which can save 50 liters of water.
4. Leakage repair
A housewife knows every corner of the house. Leaking water pipes are often the first to be noticed by the homeowner. They should have the faucet fixed by a plumber as soon as possible so that the water is not wasted.
5. Correct use of the washing machine
The washing machine should be used only when the load of clothes put in it is fully according to the standard set by the machine, so that the water put in the machine can be used completely and correctly. If the washing machine is run with less clothes, the extra water will be wasted.
6. Supervision and training of children
The first duty of a housewife is to educate her children. As a mother, she is the guardian of the next generation of the society. Therefore, the future role of his offspring in society depends on the way he was trained in childhood. The current water crisis may turn into a serious situation in the future. Therefore, children should be encouraged to use water correctly from an early age. As a mother, a woman should not forbid children from wasting water, but should also supervise them close and be strict about it. The advice given today will not only be beneficial for them tomorrow, but they will not have any problem in solving the problems they face in the future.
If we all make such small changes in our lifestyle, every household can save up to 300 liters of water per day. If we do not take this crisis seriously today, we will have to tell our future generations such stories that in our time water came as soon as we opened the tap, which we used to flush well.
